An IT audit shows what you have, where the risks are and what to fix first.
It’s every business owner’s nightmare — becoming the victim of a cyber attack, your data and operations at risk. While nobody likes to think that their company’s systems are insecure, in this digital era, new and sophisticated cyber threats arise every day, and unexpected downtime can be costly in more ways than one.
This is what makes information technology audits vital when it comes to ensuring that your systems are secure. An IT audit is an extensive analysis of a business’ IT environment involving the collection, examination, and evaluation of IT infrastructure—including policies and operations. The reports that result from audits contain critical information about all IT infrastructure components, such as the end devices, software, hardware, cloud solutions, the company’s IT staff, and their existing policies and procedures. This information acts as a guideline for businesses to detect risk, stay compliant, and implement the necessary changes to make their IT environment safe.
In an age where almost every aspect of a business has a technical component that affects day-to-day operations and helps them stay compliant with governing IT regulations, it’s essential that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) allocate a budget for IT audits.
There are many significant reasons why a business cannot ignore IT audits. These include:
A weak IT infrastructure makes your company vulnerable and exposes you to external and internal IT threats.
A regularly monitored IT environment reduces the chances of IT downtime and increases productivity.
Regular IT audits can help your business remain compliant with applicable IT laws.
An IT assessment increases data security and aims to reduce risk.
An in-depth risk assessment helps identify inefficiencies within an IT environment and helps management improve their IT policies.
An IT audit provides independent and reliable insight, which in turn can help your business achieve its goals.
While numerous companies offer IT audit solutions, at Solid Systems, we have a comprehensive audit process known as a "Systems Review." We follow a holistic approach and believe in understanding your IT requirements. Instead of offering an off-the-shelf product, we collaborate with you and align our Systems Review to match your unique business objectives. Needless to say, we’ll work closely with you and keep you informed every step of the way.
Our review process is simple and hassle-free. We understand and value your time, resources, and objectives. We start the process by learning about your IT requirements. Once we know more about your needs and where efforts should be focussed, our discovery agents will take an in-depth and analytical look at your IT environment and gather critical information.
Once we’ve collected the required data, our qualified and well-equipped IT Professionals will collate, examine, investigate, and analyse the data. We will compare your existing IT technology against industry standards and our Solid Systems Certified Site specifications. We will even ensure that Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act requirements are being met in the process.
Once your audit has been completed, you will receive a detailed Systems Review report, which will include critical information on your existing IT infrastructure. We will list the potential threats to your system, and recommend actions that should be taken, whether you choose to use us to implement them or not. The Project Lead will explain the risks and recommendations in detail during a Systems Review presentation meeting.
Finally, we’ll provide essential configuration details that you may need if you choose to migrate to any new technology. These include servers, core hardware, passwords, and more, to ensure a seamless migration. The main objective of our Systems Review process is to keep you informed about your IT infrastructure, no matter who you choose to manage it.
When you work with Solid Systems, you can expect excellent IT service, and when we perform a Systems Review, you can also expect the following deliverables:
While we consider your business’ IT objectives and recommend tools that best suit your needs, here are some further IT audit tools that you may also want to consider:
Our Cyber Security Audits provide a comprehensive analysis of your entire IT infrastructure. They identify and list all potential threats and vulnerabilities, and highlight existing high-risk IT practices.
No single IT tool can help a business accomplish all their goals. Most companies use multiple tools and applications, building a technology stack to meet their needs. Our Technology Stack Audits can help you keep track of the applications you use, ensuring that they are contributing towards your goals, and saving you time and money.
Microsoft 365 can be used for a wide range of purposes, but one area that many businesses overlook is the usage and productivity insight it offers, through the Microsoft 365 admin centre’s usage reports and Viva Insights. This public-cloud computing solution comes with excellent auditing and reporting features. We can help you ensure that your data is secure in the cloud, and monitor it closely with Microsoft Azure.

An IT audit is an in-depth review of your business’s IT environment: devices, software, hardware, cloud services, people, policies and procedures. It shows where the risks, gaps and inefficiencies are, and what to change to stay secure and compliant.
A detailed report on your core IT applications, systems, domains, software and servers; a formal report with findings and recommendations; a high-level IT roadmap and cloud journey proposal; a list of security and business continuity threats; and a presentation of our findings.
At least once a year, and whenever something significant changes, such as a merger, an office move, a move to the cloud, a new compliance requirement like Joint Standard 2, or a security incident.
Yes. As part of our Systems Review we check that Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act requirements are being met, and recommend the changes needed. Read our POPI Act compliance checklist.
